Staff Support Pack

This section sets out to outline all the support available to staff. It is not exhaustive but it is as comprehensive as possible in an environment that is changing daily. During the pandemic this support is regularly updated in the Trust COVID19 pages as the following list of support is not exhaustive.

National Support Line for NHS Staff- In the current climate of increasing pressures on our healthcare system, our NHS people potentially face significant stresses. We have introduced a national, confidential staff support line, operated by the Samaritans and free to access from 7:00am – 11:00pm, seven days a week.

This support line is here for when you’ve had a tough day, are feeling worried or overwhelmed, or maybe you have a lot on your mind and need to talk it through. Trained advisers can help with signposting and confidential listening.

Alternatively, you can text FRONTLINE to 85258 for support 24/7 via text.

Staff Support Service - We also have an established free, independent and confidential Staff Support Service (Supplied by Merseycare NHS Trust) which provides a comprehensive service to all Trust staff. This this is confidential and independent service has a 24hour helpline number of 0151 330 8103. Staff who may feel that they are suffering from stress (whether as a result of work or not) are encouraged to use this service. The majority of staff who access this service are in work.

Psychological Support – Following staff experiences during the pandemic we are in the process of improving the psychology service. Staff who feel would benefit by talking to a professional clinical psychologist are encouraged to book a session. This is currently done through completing a short referral form https://forms.gle/DR4NfoFn7mZ3wCD98  or by calling 0151 706 2946 during office hours.

Psychological First Aid – We have trained Staff Helpers available Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) at our wellbeing hubs at

• Aintree (old DVT clinic opposite AMU)
• Royal (opposite top of escalator in main entrance) as a drop in service.
• Broadgreen - Old Surgical Corridor – (From 23.2.21).

  Helpers can provide immediate comfort, signposting to additional services and resources as well as providing a compassionate and supportive listening ear.

 

Bereavement Support Line – This year many of us have lost loved ones and experienced loss. NHS People have set up a national and confidential bereavement support line, operated by Hospice UK and free to access from 8:00am – 8:00pm, seven days a week. Call 0300-303-4434.

 

Bereavement and Trauma Support Line for our Filipino Colleagues - There is a team of fully qualified and trained professionals, all of whom are Tagalog speakers, ready to help you at our NHS Bereavement & Trauma Line for Filipino Staff. This assistance is available from anywhere in the country and is provided by Hospice UK.Tagalog speaking specialist counsellors and support workers are available if colleagues:

• Have experienced bereavement
• Wellbeing has been affected by witnessing traumatic deaths as part of your work
• Need to discuss any other anxiety or emotional issues you may be experiencing as a result of the coronavirus pandemic

All calls will be treated in the strictest of confidence and this will be explained to you when you call. This service is available seven days a week, between 8:00am and 8:00pm. You do not need a referral. To book a consultation, call: 0300 303 1115.
